Open Data Challenge 2018 Hackathon kicks off in Tashkent
On 30 November 2018, an opening of the Contest for development of apps, services and solutions on visualisation of open data “Open Data Challenge” was held at Inha University in Tashkent.
The contest is organised by the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Inha University in Tashkent, the Country Office of the United Nations Development Program in Uzbekistan, the World Bank Office in Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan Youth Union, “Electronic Government” system development Center and the UZINFOCOM Center.
Open Data Challenge Hackathon is organised each year to popularise idea of open data in Uzbekistan and attract additional of developers and public to relatively new knowledge area for Uzbekistan.
Hackathon is directed at creating socially important or innovative apps and services based on open data, available at Open Data Portal (http://data.gov.uz/ru/challenge) and official websites of the state bodies of Uzbekistan, as well as provided by private sector.
The First Vice-Rector of Inha University in Tashkent (IUT) Woosug Cho opened the event.
The head of the department for strategic development of ICT under the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bobur Abdullaev, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan John McGregor, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Farid Karakhanov, the first deputy director of the “Electronic government” system development Center Daniyar Atajanov and the World Bank Digital Economy Project Yuriy Linkov attended the event.
Open Data Challenge Hackathon will take place from 30 November to 2 December 2018. On November 30, over 400 registered participants will take part in master classes and seminars. During these events, experienced mentors will share their knowledge and experience on such topics as teambuilding, data analysis and machine learning basis on Python, methodology of Lean Startup and Customer Development, blockchain, etc.
On 1-2 December, the participants will develop their projects based on open data, using knowledge and recommendations, received at from trainers and mentors.
The jury will evaluate the work of the participants and will name the winners in three categories:
• The Best Project for “Smart City” based on open data (mobile or web application, service, extension, bot for messengers or social networks, devices for data collection, processing and presentation);
• The best business project based on open data (mobile or web application, service, extension, a bot for messengers or social networks, devices for collecting, processing and presenting data);
• The best project for generating (transformation) of open data (mobile or web application, service, extension, a bot for messengers or social networks, devices for collecting, processing and presenting data).
Individual and team winners will be announced in the first and second nominations. The jury will select the most innovative project among those presented by the participants in nomination "The most innovative project of Hackathon".
The awarding ceremony of the Hackathon winners will be held on 7 December 2018.
