We are so proud to announce that our graduate of Inha University in Tashkent got a grant to study for a master’s degree at one of the most prestigious universities in South Korea – KAIST University.

My name is Enver Menadzhiev, I am 21 years old, and in 2021 I graduated from the ICE faculty.

What is the name of the master’s degree program, university and city in Korea which you entered?

On June 18, 2021, I received the good news that I entered the KAIST University (//www.kaist.ac.kr/en/) at the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence on a grant basis. This university is located in Daejeon city.

What caused the choice of this particular university?

For the first time, I heard about KAIST from my family, and then my friends began to tell me more and more about it. This university is one of the leading educational institutions in the world. It is ranked as 7th for the number of scientific papers in the field of artificial intelligence, which places it alongside such world-renowned universities as Berkley, MIT, Stanford, UCLA and UCSD. Such a high level of professional training and focus on results make KAIST one of the best places for further development as a specialist.

Of course, such a high level of education at the university makes the level of competition very high as well. In this regard, I am incredibly grateful to fate and to all those who helped me achieve this. This is nothing more than a road to life for a simple guy from Uzbekistan.

Was it hard to pass the exams?

The exam process consisted of several stages, where there were interviews and a test task. The interview was aimed both at identifying personal qualities and basic technical knowledge in the field. Some of the questions about the qualities were: “How do you cope with stress?”, “What can you call the most difficult task that you worked on?” In turn, the questions from the sphere were: “Manifold learning” and “Adam optimizer”. The test task was to write a basic predictive model from the open source “kaggle.com”. All of these assignments reveal the candidate from different angles, and I believe that this approach is one of the most comprehensive in the selection process.

What surprised you the most upon admission?

Despite the incredibly high level of workload and involvement in the research of professors, they are the ones who conduct interviews. This really surprised me very much. Communication with the one who will teach you, understanding the direction of his research, all this is a unique experience, which I sincerely wish everyone to get.

Future plans

The next stage of my life, I would like to devote to work in the field of IT. I’ve always been attracted to the creation of technology. That is why, I would like to find application of the knowledge gained and have a hand in technology that is changing people’s lives for the better. I sincerely hope that after graduation I will be able to implement this plan and become an experienced professional who is able to create.

Long-term plans tend to change, however I am sure that I would like to grow professionally and become competent enough to devote myself to what I like.

What role did Inha University in Tashkent play in your student life?

All this would not have been possible without Inha University in Tashkent. Here I made friends, gained knowledge, invaluable experience and profession. I was fortunate enough to continue my path with some of my classmates at KAIST.

Thanks to IUT, I found my profession and became a Backend developer, and also tried myself in android and desktop development. All of this became possible because of an incredible faculty.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Francis Tai Noh. He was the one who convinced me to try to enter KAIST and the one I got a recommendation from when applying. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to Professor Bakhodir Akhmedov, who recommended me to the KAIST University, and also showed by his example what to strive for. Professor Alessandro Agostini gave me the opportunity to participate in the Uzbek WordNet project, which will be published soon. I am eternally grateful to the entire Inha faculty for making me who I am now.

Initially, my path at Inha University in Tashkent began with the guidance of my mother, who always supported me in my decisions and guided me in moments of doubt. Family support in all endeavors was, is and always will be the basis of any development.

I sincerely hope that everyone is lucky enough to make such a wonderful journey in pursuit of their dreams.

“KAIST is world-famous as Korea’s most competitive science and engineering university. Because of the fierce competition for admission, KAIST has not accepted a single Uzbek student so far. The KAIST AI Graduate School has a much higher competitive edge in admissions.
I have handpicked three students to apply for through pre-filtering and introduced them to Head of AI Graduate School, Professor Song Chong. Dr. Chong decided to take the risk this time on my strong recommendation. I trust my students for the high expectations of KAIST AI graduate school.
Enver and Artyom will be overseen by Professor Jae-Sik Choi (Director of Explainable AI Research), while Kholmatov research will be led by Professor Song Chong (Head of AI Graduate School).
I believe this is a great milestone not only for IUT but also for Uzbekistan” – professor Francis Tai Noh.
