- Your name, surname, age, and what faculty, what year did you graduate from Inha.
My name is Ruslan Musyaev, I am 24 years old. I graduated from IUT in 2021, Faculty of Computer Science Engineering.
- What is the name of a master’s degree program, university and city in Korea you applied for?
I have successfully entered Hanyang International Scholarship Program (HISP), a combined Master and Doctorate program. More precisely, I joined the Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SPA Laboratory) at the Department of Electrical Engineering. Hanyang University is one of the top private universities in Seoul and South Korea in general. This university has a very high level of research results, as well as more than 3000 faculties, where about 3500 foreign students study.
- What caused the choice of this particular university?
I like trying myself in something new and from recent times relatively I was interested in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Wireless Communications and the Internet of Things. Initially, I learned about this university from Professor Francis Tai Noh. After studying this proposal in a more detailed manner, I realized that this is a great opportunity to realize my potential.
- How intense was the competition? Was it hard to pass the exams?
The very first exam was IELTS, for which I had only a week to prepare, and it was required to get 7.0. score. Next, I sent my IELTS certificate, CV, university transcript and motivation letter to a professor in South Korea. After reviewing my documents, the professor conducted an online interview, as a result of which he gave his approval. The interview itself was more like a regular conversation, during which the professor asked me about my interests, plans for the future, and asked if I had worked on OpenCV before.
- What surprised you the most upon admission?
When I first applied for this program, my professor at IUT said that my chances are not high due to the low GPA and IELTS. At that time, my GPA was 3.77 points, with the minimum allowable 3.8, and IELTS – 6.0, which is 1 point lower than the required one. I made a promise to get IELTS 7.0 and a GPA above 3.8 till the end of the last semester. In the end, I got 4.29 last semester, which raised my GPA to 3.82. This is still the minimum, so the chances were very low.
- What do you expect from studying at the University?
Become a highly qualified specialist, gaining experience in various studies in the SPA laboratory.
- Plans for the future
For the next year, after completing my studies, I want to work in South Korea in my field. Then I will take a one-year program for Ph.D postgraduates, taking part in several studies. After that, as planned, I will return to Tashkent to become a professor, as I have always wanted to teach.
- What role did Inha University in Tashkent (maybe professors) play in your student life?
It’s a long story about how I entered Westminster in my freshman year in college, but I heard about IUT and decided to go there. However, I accidentally missed the IUT entrance exam and had to have a year of a gap. I think there’s a fate that made me to go through these difficulties. But I’m so grateful that my family supported me along the way. Later on, I found a company of loyal friends who went through fire and water with me, helping to study and grow. I am glad that I entered IUT.
Special thanks to all the IUT Professors who gave me knowledge and opportunity to grow and develop in the IT field.
