Foundation Program: Preparing for University Studies in Italy and Europe

The Foundation Programme is a university-level preparatory programme designed for Uzbek students who plan to continue their education in Italy and other European countries.

The programme helps school graduates adapt to the requirements of European higher education, strengthen their academic foundation, and develop the skills needed for successful undergraduate study.

The Foundation Programme is designed to be completed in 6 months — 24 academic weeks and carries 60 CFU/ECTS credits. The programme is delivered in English and combines face-to-face instruction with selected blended learning components.

What Do Students Study?

The programme combines several academic areas designed to help students develop a strong interdisciplinary foundation:

  • Economics — fundamentals of economics, finance, and modern business models;
  • Energy & Environmental Engineering — energy systems, renewable energy sources, and environmental technologies;
  • Sustainability — sustainable development and international environmental standards;
  • Political Science & International Cooperation — fundamentals of political science, international relations, and international cooperation;
  • Artificial Intelligence & Digital Tools — modern AI tools, data fundamentals, and digital technologies;
  • Mathematics — mathematical preparation for further studies in economics, engineering, and technology-related fields;
  • Academic English — academic writing, presentations, argumentation, and working with academic sources;
  • Beginner Italian — basic Italian for everyday and university communication.

A key feature of the programme is its practical focus. In addition to classroom learning, students complete laboratory and project-based assignments, analyse real-world cases, and learn how to apply their knowledge in practice. At least 25% of classroom time is dedicated to practical sessions, case discussions, project work support, and presentation preparation.

Preparing for the European Higher Education System

The Foundation Programme is more than a collection of individual subjects. It helps students transition from a school-based learning environment to the academic requirements of university education.

Students develop skills in academic writing, presentation, data analysis, independent learning, and digital literacy. At the same time, learning materials and practical assignments connect European experience with the realities of Uzbekistan and Central Asia.

English language development is an important component of the programme. Prior knowledge of Italian is not required for admission, as the programme provides Italian language instruction from beginner level.

Who Is the Foundation Programme for?

The programme is primarily designed for school graduates and other students who plan to continue their education abroad and require additional academic preparation before entering university.

The basic entry requirements include a secondary school leaving certificate or equivalent qualification, basic mathematics skills, and English proficiency at B1 level or access to language support.

The Foundation Programme is particularly relevant for students considering further studies in fields such as engineering, IT and AI, energy, sustainability, economics, and other disciplines that require a strong academic and analytical foundation.

What Does the Programme Provide?

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Programme, students receive preparation aligned with a pre-university pathway and can use the qualification when applying for further university studies.

The programme is connected to a network of Italian and European universities. However, specific admission conditions, required documents, language requirements, and entrance examinations may vary depending on the university and degree programme selected.

The Foundation Programme therefore serves as a bridge between school and university, giving students the time, knowledge, and academic skills needed to make a confident start in European higher education.
