International Mathematical Olympiad

Professor of Inha University in Tashkent, Mr. Rustam Turdibayev (PhD) became the coach of the Uzbekistan team that will compete on the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad.

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the most prestigious mathematical competition among talented young people, which is held annually among high school students.

Each country sending a team formed of six members to compete in a two-day competition with 3 tasks and allocated 4.5 hours  for solving. Complex tasks are selected from school sections of algebra, geometry, number theory and combinatorics. The IMO has been organized since 1969 annually, and teams from Uzbekistan have been participating since 1997.

In order to strengthen the combinatorics knowledge of the each team member, Prof. R. Turdibayev conducted several trainings for the team at IUT. Special topics on recurrence relations, the principle of double counting, graph theory were the main topics of training sessions.

Note that most of these topics are covered in the Discrete Mathematics course for students of the Faculty of Computer and Software Engineering of Inha University in Tashkent, as combinatorics are widely used in the development of algorithms and proof of their effectiveness.

We wish to the Uzbekistan team successful performance at the IMO 2019 in the UK!
